Final meeting: Friday 19th October 1866
Brookhill has now been subsumed into the London Borough of Barnet, but in the middle of the 19th century it was in East Barnet and organised races in its own right. The inaugural 2 day meeting took place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd November 1865, opening with the Brookhill Steeplechase over 2 ½ miles. The card closed with the 3 mile Hunt Cup which was won by Sir W O’Malley’s Diana. Such was the success of the meeting that a follow-up 2 day meeting was staged the next year beginning on Thursday 18th October. However, the course in fields on the outskirts of the town was very heavy, the crowd size mediocre and the sport described as tame. So ended the meetings at Brookhill. |
